I am a player who wants to learn clarinet or baritone euphonium for DCI?
Hello. I played the clarinet for almost 5 years and now 15. However, I am in love with steps and want to go test for the DCI. However, I have to learn a wind instrument, so I'll have my boyfriend, who is testing for next season, the ICD to teach me baritone or euphonium. [He plays the tuba / euphonium, baritone / trombone and jazz and all the stats:)] I know how difficult it is to play the instrument? And if the 3 years will be sufficient to prove a lesser Corp. and possibly for my 5th year of play make a body like a ghost? Thank you:)
Although I can not give clear answers to these instruments, I can tell you this: Once you learn an instrument (and learned well), adding a second (or third, etc.) is far from the amount of work was the first. I started with the piano (5) and added the clarinet at the age of 10. As has already been familiar with the theory could all read music, I could to concentrate on learning the fingering and just the sound of the instrument. Since I added the guitar (15 years), (saxophone 30 years) and violin (35 years). Although only play on a recreational level, I am still able to choose one of these up, and participate in a group without embarrassment for me. I think if you are a competent musician and well read music, you'll be able to learn a new instrument in the time you have yourself given. This certainly seems like they are motivated, it is a great help. Although they have never played baritone or euphonium, trumpet, I played a couple of times ... Once the muscles needed to tone it becomes easier. Good luck!
